How long is Army basic training?
The short answer is: Army basic training, officially known as Basic Combat Training (BCT), is a 10-week journey. But there’s a little more to it.
Week Zero: Gearing Up for Training
Before the real intensity kicks in, you will spend Week Zero getting settled in. It’s for the paperwork, medical checks, and getting your uniform on point. It’s a preface to your National Guard journey.
The 10-Week Grind
This is the actual training — 10 weeks of intense physical and mental training. Here you start with early mornings, rigorous drills, and pushing your limits in every way imaginable.
Victory Forge: Testing Your Mettle
The final week culminates in Victory Forge, a rigorous exercise that tests all the skills you have honed throughout training. It’s your chance to shine and prove you’re ready to join the ranks of America’s finest.
Beyond BCT: Advanced Individual Training (AIT)
Once you graduate from your Basic Combat Training, your journey continues with Advanced Individual Training (AIT). The length of AIT depends on your chosen Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). It includes learning specific skills you need for your unique role in the Army, and it can range from a few weeks to a year.
So, how long is Army basic training all in all?
BCT is always 10 weeks, but AIT adds additional time, so the total time commitment varies depending on your chosen Military Occupational Specialty (MOS).
